Cibolo Green Elementary School
Considered one of the first “green” schools in San Antonio, Texas, Cibolo Green Elementary School (CGES) opened its doors in August 2010. Built with a focus on energy and water conservation, CGES is constructed of materials that are non-toxic and contain recycled content that also contribute to improved indoor air quality. The facility, which is under review by the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for a Gold LEED rating, utilizes innovative design elements to contribute to the sustainability of this site.
The new facility needed a resilient flooring solution that could withstand the heavy traffic and building use from its students and faculty, yet also be easy to maintain. The Azrock Collection’s Solid Vinyl Tile (SVT) and Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) flooring met the facility’s needs by providing the desired aesthetics, design flexibility and maintenance qualities. With a wide range of color options and superior performance warranty, SVT and VCT flooring provided the appropriate flooring solution.
“We saw true design potential in The Azrock Collection flooring, which offered a wide range of color and custom cut design capabilities,” stated Manuel H. Garza, LEED AP, designer at Pfluger Associates Architects. “Plus, the reduced maintenance properties of the floor would contribute to the improved indoor air quality for its students and faculty staff.”
About the Partnership with Pfluger Associates Architects
The team at Pfluger Associates Architects was pleased with the design flexibility, color range and reduced maintenance qualities of SVT flooring. The natural durability of the floor and its resilience to heavy traffic made it an excellent flooring solution for the classrooms, corridors and stairs on the CGES campus. SVT and VCT allowed the flooring vision to come to life by allowing the use of several custom cut designs throughout the school. The 53,000 square feet of VCT in classrooms and 30,000 square feet of SVT in its corridors and stairs, helps Cibolo Green Elementary School integrate the overall design concept for the building providing a cheerful, open environment that features natural, fluid design.
